Wrap Up From Memphis
Man, it’s been a week now. Life doesn’t feel the same at all. We had an absolute blast riding over those three days. I’m guessing that we could do it in 2 days now that we know what’s ahead of us. We met some really helpful people, including a hunter near Biscoe, AR, who told us a great spot to camp the first night. We rode by a lot of fields. We battled the wind.

The Numbers Are In
Guys and gals the official donation numbers are in…we hit $805! We set a goal for $1,000 not really knowing what to expect and we couldn’t be happier with the total we’ve raised for Our House. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’re blown away by your generosity. Remember to keep supporting initiatives like Our House in your own community (if you’re...

We Made It!
If you’re following this blog I assume you already know that we made it. It’s been a chill afternoon filled with food, naps and beers. I, Don, always crave a few beers after a long ride. Dinner plans are scheduled for the Fuel Cafe. I’m pretty stoked to check this place out. We really appreciate your support and following along with us. Hopefully we won’t let this media...

Almost There
I’m sure you just saw the last few photo updates giving you an idea of where we are but just wanted to write a bit too. We’ve stopped 12 miles outside of West Memphis leaving us with about 23 miles to go tomorrow! We crossed through Forrest City today which was our only elevation and thoroughly enjoyed hitting those down hill slopes. Don’s pannier is starting to split a bit in...

Day 1 is Done, On To Day 2
We successfully made it through day 1 of riding and the night. Ended up, unknowingly, doing about 70 miles yesterday. Had a pretty good rain fall on us in the night but everything stayed relatively dry. It’s now the morning of day 2 and we’re huddled around a small camp stove preparing some bulgur wheat, bananas and agave nectar. I doubt we’ll ride another 70 miles today but who...

Apple Cinnamon Energy Bars
This recipe comes from the Thrive Diet which we’ve mentioned before as a guide for some of our nutrition. Made a double batch of these puppies last night. They look very similar to Larabars, if you’ve ever had those.
1 small apple, cored
1 cup fresh or soaked dried dates
1/2 cup soaked or cooked quinoa
1/4 cup almonds
1/4 cup ground flaxseed
1/4 cup hemp protein
2 tsp cinnamon

This looks like a lot of fun. Joe’s new bike is a cyclocross and I’m riding a hybrid with nubs so maybe we could do something like this in the future?
Nutrition: Vol. 2 :: Cals, Proteins, & Carbs
One of the big factors for our ride, as we’ve previously mentioned, is carbohydrate count. We need those carbs to turn into the little sugars and energy in our bodies so we have the strength to continue on. We’ve done a little research and evaluated 4 high carbohydrate items (pasta, quinoa, bulgur wheat, and brown jasmine rice) to see what the best bang for our buck will be. We chose...
Thumbs Up Everybody...For Rock N Roll! {a video w/...
So the ride is quickly approaching and things are getting exciting in the Vegan Biker Dude camp. You know if I ever catch myself now and again thinking, “How can i do this?” or “That seems so hard and impossible.” I know that the task will come and go. I’ll look back on it and think, “Wow, what a silly idea that became a reality and was awesome.” I know...
Nutrition: The Introduction
This comes hard for the Dudes. Although we’re both vegan the nutrition aspect hasn’t always been important to us but in preparing for the big ride it has to be. We can’t go out and ride 50 miles then feel spent and struggle through the rest. That’d make for an absolutely miserable time! We’re going to be using the Thrive Diet for some of our guiding principles and...
Harper's Loop
Today we had a pretty killer ride around Harper’s Loop. This loop is 37 miles long and is a perfect ride for our training purposes. It was a super windy day and that slowed down our initial time so it took us a bit longer than we wanted but nonetheless we got the ride done and saw some beautiful parts of Arkansas!
Riding For Our House!
Today we met with some incredible people who help keep the work of Our House going. In our meeting we knocked out the details of riding in support of their organization and all is good to go! We’ll be asking for your monetary donation to Our House on behalf of our ride to Memphis. We’ve set a goal to raise $1,000 for Our House. The Dudes are stoked to be partnered with an...
